The liability shift for counterfeit card fraud took effect in October 2016 for MasterCard and in October 2017 for Visa. If your ATM is not EMV-capable after those dates, you may bear liability for fraud. Because EMV implementation can take 12‑16 months (or more, depending on your hardware/software environment), we strongly recommend planning well in advance.
